Frontier Chemistry Project

Frontier Chemistry Project is about finding and researching local flora to identify the active chemical compounds responsible for medical exploitation.

The importance of justifying a plant or a root correctly is because if you pick up a plant that you "think" it is, the plant could very well be another plant that can be poisonous, for in some cases you can die from it. Also if you need the plant for a medical condition, you want to make sure it is the correct plant so you can get the help you need from it.

It would be prudent to know a variety of species from other regions when dealing with natural medicines and food because that way you aren't dependent on just one plant in one certain area. If you expand your knowledge of the variety of species from other regions then you'll be able to survive just fine.

It would make a significant difference if you were traveling in different seasons because some plants may not be in bloom in that season you're traveling in, so therefore you can't use that plant as for food or for medicine. For example if you were traveling in the middle of the winter, more than likely most plants would be dead, so you would be out of luck for food and for medicine.

As a scientist, it would be significant to develop a relationship with local people about their plant habitat because if you are unfamiliar with the area, the local people can help you learn about the different plants in the area that you could use for food or for medicine. Also you could learn about which plants to stay away from because of their dangerous chemical compounds.

I would not trust my own knowledge or a reference texts of local flora to treat illness or disease if I was found without traditional medicines because even though there are plus sides to plants helping you, there will always be a downside. Some plants may have harmful chemicals in them and can cause more damage to someone than trying to help them with a situation like a cut on their arm. Some plants even cause dermatitis just by touching them. So while you're trying to heal yourself, it is a possibility that you can harm yourself as well. In my own opinion, I'd rather not make the situation any worse than it actually is.
